Golf Course Schedule & Projects

Hello from the Maintenance Department at Silo Point! We are finally beginning to see some weather that resembles spring and good golf weather.
As the season winds up, we want to recap and update you on our ongoing golf course projects. Outside of our normal mowing and maintenance practices, we have the ongoing cleanup of holes 5 and 6 from the river flooding. The two bridges that were replaced on 5 are getting new railings and posts. The remaining silt on 6 will be cleaned up. We appreciate your patience as the silt clean up is a tedious process with no simple way to clean it up other than shoveling 50% of the silt by hand in some cases, depending on where it is.
We all know the relentless rain this year has made some of our cart paths bumpy. Please know that we are doing our best to fill the potholes as they occur. Every time it rains it softens these areas and new ones are created. Filling wet paths in low lying areas makes mud and we try to let those areas dry before filling these holes.
Our new equipment has debuted this season, mowing greens, fairways and rough. This has been an extremely helpful addition to our fleet to further enhance our product to you. We have already seen minimal downtime and increased efficiency as a result.
You may also have noticed the tree work on the left side of the 13th hole. We removed several trees to reclaim the rough that has been encroached over the years and create a better sight line on the hole.
On a final note, I want to remind everyone, especially on hole 12-14, to please stay on the cart paths as these holes are still too wet. Quite a bit of cart traffic has been going into these wet areas and they are becoming worn down. Please respect our course and abide by the cart signs and ropes!
We look forward to seeing all of you out there and please, HAVE FUN!
Brett Richards, Golf Course Superintendent
