March Member Update

From Tee to Green

Hello and happy March from Brett and CJ at Silo Point! We hope that everyone is enjoying the offseason. This winter has been quite eventful as far as weather, one we haven’t seen in many years. We are already preparing for the upcoming golf season and want to update you as we begin to emerge from this historic winter.

Our team has recorded over 32 inches of snow and the persistent cold temps have kept it with us for some time. We have begun implementing an aggressive proactive approach starting with snow removal on our most vulnerable greens: 7,14 and 17. Many may ask what the problems could be.

The answer to this actually is with ice and freeze/thaw cycles. When ice is built up on green surfaces from freeze/thaw cycles, it cuts off oxygen from the plant. With prolonged periods of ice cover, a build up of cyanide gas can occur, which can lead to turf death in poorly drained areas. This is common in the northeast due to the high level of old style "push up” heavy soiled greens.

We are happy to report Silo Point is holding strong and not experiencing issues so far. As the snow and ice continue to melt, we are consistently monitoring these areas to mitigate potential damage. Since we are always at the mercy of mother nature, we draw on successful past experiences to plan our path forward.  We are preparing for another great season no matter what mother nature does! Clean your clubs, stock up on golf balls and get ready for dewy morning and quiet afternoons. Please stay safe and enjoy the remainder of winter, golf will be here before you know it.

Course Schedule

The golf course is still closed for the season. During this time we require that there is no play or pedestrian traffic on the course so the turf can remain healthy throughout the winter. We appreciate your cooperation! We are anticipating opening on April 1st, 2026. If our weather continues to improve, we look forward to opening in late March.

The Pro Shop is now closed for the off-season. During this time, the most efficient way to be in touch is via email. Please email membership@silopointcc.com to reach us until the shop reopens for Spring. The postal mailbox and phone calls will be monitored regularly, as well.

Members are reminded to bring their account current prior to making their first starting time.
