Spring 2023 Member Update

Spring is in the air and the golf season is just around the corner! We are excited to welcome everyone back soon. Our current target opening date for the golf course and clubhouse is Wednesday, March 15th (weather permitting). As we gear up for the 2023 golf season, we have some exciting updates to share with you:

Staff Announcements

We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Alex Bardani, PGA to Director of Private Golf for Alliance. He will be overseeing all the operations at both Blackhawk Country Club and Silo Point Country Club. Alex brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, and we are confident that he will help take our facilities to the next level.

We would like to welcome Tony Roberto, PGA to Silo Point as our new Head Golf Professional joining Shawn Riley, PGA Apprentice Professional here at Silo Point for the 2023 season. Tony brings an impressive record of accomplishments including serving on the Connecticut PGA Executive Board, six PGA Merchandiser of the Year Awards, and a PGA Junior Golf Leader Award, among many others. He also has an impressive playing career, winning an NCAA National Championship at Florida Southern, and over 20 individual wins in section tournaments. Tony also volunteers his time as a PGA HOPE Instructor, introducing our veterans to the game. His wealth of knowledge and experience will be a great addition to Silo Point.

Golf Course

Welcome once again from the Maintenance Team at Silo Point! We are sure that cabin fever is setting in for those who are in Connecticut, especially with the mild winter we have had (until today!). The golf course has made it through this portion of the winter in good shape turf-wise. We have not had any winter damage to date. We have been cutting dead trees on Holes #1, 2, 3 and 6, as well as trees with various wind and storm damage throughout the golf course. We have also pruned back the pine trees between the Driving Range and #18! We are hoping to start tree work on #16 Tee and the edge of #17 Fairway as soon as we can get equipment out there on firm ground. As every winter also brings, we have been planning for the following season and adjusting maintenance practices to provide optimum conditioning as well as all the equipment maintenance necessary to get us through the growing season. We look forward to seeing everyone soon! Brett Richards, CGSAA Golf Course Superintendent

Policies & Procedures

A friendly reminder to all Members: our policy going forward states that you *must check into the golf shop* before your round, please let our staff know if you are walking or riding and how many holes you will be playing. The check-in process is imperative to a smooth operation of the golf course, tee sheet, and an overall positive Member experience. We also ask that guests check-in prior to their round and sign in on the guest log. Each guest may play up to twice per month, and a maximum of six times per year.

Billing

Member Statements are sent out on the 2nd of every month, and payments are due no later than the last day of every month. The Member Billing portal can be found in the Member Area of the website and on the Mobile App. Please contact membership@silopointcc.com with any billing questions.

As we look forward to reopening in March, all Members enrolled in the installment plan must have paid the January and February installments, plus any outstanding charges, to be eligible for play.

  • The optional GHIN Fee will be billed to all who elect on April 1, 2023

  • The mandatory Range Fee will be billed to all Memberships on May 1, 2023

Communications

Member Updates (newsletters) will be distributed monthly via email from membership@silopointcc.com. To view a feed of published Member Updates, please visit the Member Area.

More timely course updates, tournament information, and reminders are sent out via push notification on the Mobile App. Make sure push notifications are set to “ON” to receive these updates. If you need assistance, please contact Tony, Shawn, or Alex.

Golf Shop

Members have the option to join a Mill River Plan this season! A Mill River Plan is a buying plan designed to provide players with discounted pricing on goods purchased through the Silo Point Golf Shop. The concept is simple: there is an upfront fee to join the program and then all your golf shop purchases are discounted to 10% above wholesale costs. This includes Equipment, Balls, Gloves, Shoes, Shirts, Hats, and SPECIAL ORDERS! This great program saves you hundreds of dollars on all your golfing needs throughout the season.

Along with offering the Mill River Plan, we will also be carrying some new lines across both golf shops for 2023 including Ralph Lauren/RLX, Swannies, Turtleson, Footjoy, and more!

The 2023 Mill River charge will be $199 for Single Memberships and $249 for Families. You can opt-in to the Mill River Plan by filling out this form:

Tournament Schedule

The Tournament Schedule is available in the Member Area. Please note that eligibility will depend, in part, on your Membership Classification (for ex. only Full Members are eligible for Weekend events, unless noted otherwise). All tournament sign-ups will be taken in the golf shop and open at least one month in advance. Tournament information such as time, format, eligibility, cost, etc. will be promoted via email as soon as details become available. Please see the golf shop staff to sign up for any member events.

Leagues

Leagues at Silo Point are Member driven. Below you will find details for the established Men's Golf Association (Wednesday mornings), Women's 18-Hole Golf Association (Thursday mornings) and Women's Interclub. If you are interested in arranging additional league play, please speak to Tony, Shawn or Alex.

Optional Member Services

Lockers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When submitting your optional services form, we will reserve a locker (if available) and charge your member account. Please visit the golf shop for a key if you see you have been charged for a locker.

MEN with a locker in 2022 will be automatically billed for the same locker this season (unless handled otherwise). Additional lockers have been added to the Men's locker room.
WOMEN need to request a new locker for 2023. Priority will be given to requests from Women who had a locker in 2022 until March 14th. New lockers with digital keys have been installed. Shawn, Alex, or Tony can assist you with setting up a new digital key code.
If you had a locker in 2022 but NO LONGER WISH TO USE YOUR LOCKER, please submit the form and check the box to resign your locker and promptly return your key to the golf shop, or you will be billed.

The GHIN Handicap fee is $50 for the year. If you are a new member transferring your GHIN from another club, please make sure to include your GHIN number in the optional services form. You must have an active GHIN handicap at Silo Point Country Club to play in any club events, with no exceptions.

We hope you are as excited as we are for the 2023 golf season at Silo Point Country Club! We will continue to share Member Updates throughout the season to keep all information current and readily available. Please email membership@silopointcc.com if you have any questions regarding billing or Membership privileges.

See you soon!
